This policy explains how Wild Cats Media ("DateMate Social", "we") handles your personal data when you use DateMate Social. We are the Data Fiduciary for your data under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act").

1. Data we collect

  • Account details: first name (a last name only if you add one; it is never shown to members), date of birth, gender, email address, mobile number and password (stored encrypted).
  • Profile details you choose to add: photos, bio, pronouns, more about your gender, sexual orientation, who you want to meet, what you are looking for, Date or BFF mode, interests, prompts, habits (drinking, smoking, workout, pets), basics (such as zodiac, love language, family plans, religion and politics), height, work, education, languages, where you live and your hometown.
  • Location, only if you share it: rounded to about one kilometre, used only to show approximate distances. Your exact location is never shown.
  • Discovery preferences: age range, distance and "verified only".
  • Photo verification, only if you ask for the badge: a live selfie copying a pose, which our team compares with your profile photos by eye. No face data or template is created, and the selfie is deleted once it has been checked.
  • Activity: likes, Super Likes and passes, matches, messages, calls, profile views, blocks and reports.
  • "Avoid someone you know": the phone numbers or emails you add, kept only as encrypted fingerprints.
  • Invitations: if you joined through a member's invite link, who invited you.
  • Payments, if paid plans are offered: plan, amount and transaction reference. Card, UPI and bank details are handled by our payment partner, never stored by us.
  • Technical data: IP address, device and browser type, and the cookies described in our Cookie Policy.

Details such as gender identity, orientation, religion and politics are sensitive. They are always optional, orientation is hidden from your profile unless you switch it on, and the words you type under "Tell us if we're missing something" are read only by our team.

Separate consent for sensitive data. We store your gender detail, your sexual orientation, a photo-verification selfie and your approximate location only if you agree separately to each (a box, never ticked for you, or tapping "Use my location"), which is never ticked for you. We keep a record of what you agreed to, when, and to which wording. You can withdraw any of these at any time in Privacy and consents on your Profile, as easily as you gave it; we then delete what it covered (the detail, the orientation, the selfie and the verified badge, or the location). On the same page you can nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or cannot do it yourself.

2. Why we use it

  • To create and show your profile, and to show you people in Discover and Explore who fit your preferences and whose preferences you fit.
  • To let members like each other, and chat and call once they match.
  • To review profiles and photos, verify photos, and prevent fake profiles, scams and abuse.
  • To send service messages (new likes, matches, messages, security alerts) and, only if you agreed, news and offers by email.
  • To answer support requests and complaints, and meet our legal obligations.
  • To see where signing up or logging in is hard: we count which sign-up screen people finish or leave, and whether logins succeed. These counts use a random code in your browser session, never your name, contact details, answers or passwords.

We process your data on the basis of the consent you give when you sign up, and for the legitimate uses the DPDP Act allows. You can withdraw your separate consents for sensitive data in Privacy and consents, and all consent by deleting your account; this does not affect processing already done.

3. Who can see your information

  • Other members whom you want to meet, and who want to meet someone like you, can see your profile. They see your first name, age, photos and the details you added, and an approximate distance, never your location, surname, email or phone number. Passing on someone is never shown to them.
  • Your matches can message and call you. Nobody else can.
  • Our team sees what it needs to review profiles, photos, verification selfies and reports. When you report someone, a copy of your conversation with them is kept with the report.
  • Service providers who help us run DateMate Social: hosting, email and SMS delivery, push notifications, video calls, the payment partner, and, only if you use "Write it for me" during sign-up, an AI service that drafts your bio from the answers you give. They may use the data only for that purpose, under contract.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it or to protect someone's safety.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not show your profile to people who are not signed in.

4. How long we keep it

  • While your account is active.
  • When you delete your account, your profile disappears at once, your photos and any verification selfie are deleted straight away, and everything else is erased within 30 days.
  • Kept after that: reports about abuse (and the conversation copy kept with them), payment records the law requires, and, for accounts banned for breaking our rules, an encrypted fingerprint of the email and phone number so the person cannot sign up again.
  • Verification selfies are deleted as soon as they have been checked, whether verified or rejected. ID documents sent before photo verification replaced ID checks are deleted the same way.
  • Sign-up and login counts (see section 2) are deleted after 180 days.
  • If you leave the sign-up form part-way, your answers so far (never your password) are kept in your browser session for up to 2 hours so you can continue; "Start over" deletes them.

5. Your rights

Under the DPDP Act you may get a summary of your personal data and how it is used, correct or update it, ask us to erase it, nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or are incapacitated, and raise a grievance. You can edit most details in your profile, download a copy of your data from the "Delete account" page in your settings, delete your account there, or write to our Grievance Officer. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

6. Security

We use encrypted connections, encrypted passwords, access controls, rate limits and monitoring. Verification selfies are kept in private storage that only our verification team can open, until they are checked. No system is completely secure; if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.

7. Age limit

DateMate Social is only for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18 and delete any such account we find. Members can report anyone who looks under 18, and these reports are handled first.

8. Cookies

We use cookies that keep you signed in and secure. Analytics and advertising measurement, if switched on, run only after you accept cookies. See our Cookie Policy.
